We are donating a 3 day 2 night Frank Church Wilderness experience to support their mission to provide camp sponsorships to kids with diabetes. They are having a dinner and auction this Saturday night in Boise, see more here. 100% of the proceeds of this trip will go to Camp Hodia, so if you are in Boise Saturday night and are interested in supporting a great organization and possibly get a great deal on a fun trip, register and attend this event. The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation Show in Las Vegas, NV from Feb 28 to March 3 and the the Salt Lake ISE show March 14-17. 2015 Idaho Spring Bear Season Begins with a Trophy Class Bear Our first official week of spring bear hunting in our backcountry unit 27 in Central Idaho began with a father son combo from Nebraska and when we went to sit a couple of baits within ear shot of each other, Cam (the son and youth hunter) and I were greeted by the sound of a rifle report just towards the end of legal light. With curiosity getting the best of us, we sprinted over to where his Dad Jeff had been sitting and he and his first year guide, Jacob Roy, were no where to be found. Bear Hunting with Our Next Generation I had an exceedingly refreshing hunting experience this past spring-bear season. In camp we had 2 youths; one was a 12-year-old boy, Austin, who was hunting with his father, the other was my 18-year-old daughter, Suzy, who was our camp cook. We will be Attending the Missouri Deer Classic Show Next month we are heading to Columbia, Missouri to attend the Missouri Deer Classic. We will be heading to Missouri March 15 and 16 and will be talking Idaho and Utah deer, elk and bear hunting at the show. Avoid the December 1 Black Friday Idaho Nonresident Tag Sale: Book with an Idaho Outfitter If you have hunted Idaho in recent years or are intending to this year, you probably know that Idaho’s nonresident deer and elk tags go on sale December 1. This year it just happens to fall on a Friday. We have heard from hunters and some Idaho Fish and Game personnel that it can be quite the “Black Friday” adventure trying to get in line (online or in person) to get your chance at an Idaho nonresident elk or deer tag. Perspectives on Long-Range Hunting: Speed Kills Beginning from about the time Winchester necked the .30/06 case down to .270, long-range-hunting ideology has proclaimed: “speed kills”. Speed is measured by a bullet’s velocity in feet-per-second.
