Week 2 saw Colby Downs from Louisiana shoot a geriatric bear (can't wait to find out the age on this one) Then the RMEF gang from Bowling Green, Kentucky scored on 2 very nice boars before heading home. And just last Saturday Carl Weeks from Twin Falls, Idaho shot what we believe will be a book boar. See our gallery for some pics so far. The rest of the pics are in the cameras on the mountain. With curiosity getting the best of us, we sprinted over to where his Dad Jeff had been sitting and he and his first year guide, Jacob Roy, were no where to be found. Idaho Spring Bear Season “Officially” Opens in Backcountry Units It is almost time for my second favorite time of year…spring bear season! It “officially” opens in many back country units like where we guide in the Middlefork zone on April 1st. I say officially as that is when it does open, but with this years late and heavy snowfalls, I am confident the bears will not be waking from their winter slumber for at least a few more weeks, at least at our elevations. Spring Bear Season is Almost Here and There are a Few Spots Left Bookings for this years 2014 spring bear season have been brisk and we are grateful that so many hunters are putting their faith and hunting dollars in us and Idaho. Comments (4) First of all, I want to thank George and Rusty for a wonderful week. I've hunted my entire life and ridden in some gorgeous country, but this week ranks right up on the top of the list. From riding in to the bear baits, to crossing the "raging" river, to writing and sharing poetry with Rusty, it was truly a week I will never forget.
The look on my grandson's face as he rode in to camp (at midnight) on Kaye, his favorite mule, was worth more than money could ever buy. His smile was almost as big as my son-n-law's when on the third night he harvested "Tippy" a huge black bear that the Rusty and George had nicknamed. The food was fantastic, the tents and sleeping areas were clean and well kept, and the sound of the river at night put you to sleep.
The final lines of a poem, "sit back and come often, your one of the folks", truly does apply to this wonderful week spent in the Idaho wilderness. Thanks Guys. 14 years ago This was my first guided hunt and my first bear hunt. Even though I did not harvest a bear I would highly recommend George and Rusty to anyone. My self and a buddy both took our 9 year old sons and they loved every minute of the hunt. My buddy harvested a nice, possbily book black bear. I can't wait for the next time. George is a great guy and a great cook. We ate very well. The peach pancakes were my favorite. My son and I will cherish this memory for many years to come. Thanks WildIdahoOutfitters. We will be back.
