Google will just create a new company that owns chrome seperatly, but absolutley nothing else will change, it would still be owned by google. And this wouldnt change anything when it comes to competition, this is empty politics. They will never agree to sell it to someone else, thats insane. Plus anyone that can afford it is also to big and is also in a monoploly position.

I agree with the latter point. Chrome prime is dead, but chromium lives on and the companies using it have to keep it up themselves.

IMO, turn Chrome into a non-profit company and make Chrome 100% open source project. Chromium is open source but there's no way to make request/propose a change directly.
It should be like the Linux kernel. Where it'll be a simple open source hosted git project (in Github/GitLab/or their own) where anyone can open a Pull Request to implement a feature or change.
But there will be a team of developers who will be actively work on it and review PRs and merge accordingly. Like how Linus Torvalds and team of Linux contributors operate

People keep talking about how Chrome needs to be sold. They forget what happened to Bell Telephone company and AT&T. The US gov't broke that up into multiple different independent companies. They could just slice off the division that runs Chrome and have it become its own company. Similarly, they could break off other services like the G Suite.
