With the first, of course, being Thanksgiving. I personally am glad that Thanksgiving falls when it does this year as it leaves no time for PHD (post hunting depression) to set in.

Instead, it is a time to reflect on this past year and all the many incredible blessings we have in our lives.

I have said it before and it bears repeating, the best part of our job is the people we get to meet. We always look forward to old friends coming back to join us in hunting camp and the opportunity to make new friends. This year was no different. People make this job wonderful!

I have said it before and it bears repeating, the best part of our job is the people we get to meet. We always look forward to old friends coming back to join us in hunting camp and the opportunity to make new friends. This year was no different. People make this job wonderful!

We are already pouring over maps and brainstorming ideas on where to put new bear baits, what time and size of trail crew to hire along with searching for potential sites for new drop camps.

We hope, for those of you who read this, that you are sharing this day with family and friends and reflecting on the amazing blessings we share in this country. We hope your past hunting and/or outdoor recreation season was just incredible and that you have many adventures in your future. It is the heritage of public land ownership that makes many of these adventures a possibility that creates the reality.

As always too, I hope you take time the thank a soldier for your freedoms and God for your blessings!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Get out and hunt Idaho spring bears and apply for a trophy species.

April 1 is the beginning of a lot of cool things here in Idaho. It is the official beginning day of the backcountry spring bear seasons and it is the day to begin the application process for Idaho trophy species. Idaho defines trophy species as Bighorn Sheep, Mountain Goats and Moose.

If you have the desire to hunt one of these species in Idaho this year, it is time to put in your application. Your application can be done online at https://idfg.idaho.gov/ or if you are in Idaho, you can visit your local license vendor. If you have never applied and are curious about some of the better spots to apply, feel free to Contact Us and we will share with you what we know about what is available.

We outfit and guide in area 27 and there are a couple of different sheep options, but there is only 1 moose tag. This moose hunt is tough as the area is huge and the moose are very elusive. Kelly and I have been lucky enough to draw that tag in the very recent years and we both were able to harvest pretty nice representative Shiras Bull Moose. This is not a trophy area by large antler measures, but can be a very cool hunt as we can combine with an elk and deer hunt to make it an “ultimate ungulate hunt”!

The odds of drawing this hunt are very good as last year only 4 hunters applied for that 1 tag. Those odds are almost as good as drawing a cow elk tag! So, if a moose is on your bucket list and you wouldn’t mind hunting elk and deer along with it, Contact Us and let’s visit about getting you in the drawing.

This winter was a deep and long one, so if you have cabin fever as we do and are excitedly watching the winters’ snow inch its way up the mountainside, it’s time to start really planning for your fall hunts and get out and possibly get in your first or fiftieth Idaho Spring Bear. Either way, get out and enjoy our wonderful public lands.

See you in the woods!

This was the end of our twelfth season of owning and operating Wild Idaho Outfitters and we have had 12 consecutive “best years ever”.
One of the best parts of this job, unequivocally, is getting to know the people we meet and enjoy camp with. It is my sincerest belief that people arrive as hunters/clients/customers and leave as friends. We have made many friends from all over this wonderful country of ours and are grateful for you all.
We hope as you sit down with family and friends this holiday weekend and as you reflect on things you are grateful for you are able to reflect on what a great country we live in where we can enjoy public lands that are here for all of us. That we can pursue outdoor interests, regardless of them being consumptive or non-consumptive, because of our public lands system. In this crazy political environment we live in, one thing we all seem to have in common is our love for outdoor pursuits and our ability to enjoy them on public land.
We are truly grateful for all of you who have ever hunted with us and for those of you who have already booked for future seasons. We recognize that it is more than just the price of the hunt involved in coming hunting with us. We recognize that there is time away from work, time away from family and there is the travel time related to making it to this remote section of Idaho, so from all of us at Wild Idaho Outfitters,
Thank you and Happy Thanksgiving to you and your families!
